Tuna and Dolphin

Just watched a bunch of football
yesterday and wow…what a crazy
season.

My Texans looked good. Finished
8-8. And affected they playoff scenario.
Beating Chicago and having the Bucs
collapse helped put the Iggles in.

Not too shabby considering
the Texans are in one of the toughest
divisions in the league. The AFC
South usually puts at least 2 if
not 3 teams in the Playoffs every
year.

And hey, 8-8 is good enough to win
the AFC West or even the NFC West
right? The Cards could have sat out
yesterday and still wrapped up their
pitiful division.

And of course the Cowboys got
humiliated. Again. It was a beautiful
thing. Amazing the amount of ink
a mediocre 9-7 like them gets.

But I digress. The point of this email
is the importance of coaching.

To me the best story of the Football
year to me is the remarkable turnaround
of the Dolphins. 1-15 last year. Bottom
of the barrel. And in comes Bill Parcells.
The Tuna. And he cleans house and
puts people in place that he wants.
And blammo. They win their division.

Unbelievable. If you think a coach isn’t
important, you’re outta your mind.
When I got a business coach, things
really changed for me.

Every athlete you have ever admired
had a coach. Or multiple coaches.
95 percent of Fortune 500 CEO’s
have coaches.

No one is an island. The truly wise men
in this world know that they don’t
know everything. And they seek out
the knowledge of others to fast track
them to success.

3 Oldsmobiles. Which is the Ugliest? The stately Aurora?

And no I don’t mean Sleeping
Beauty either.

I am referring to the god awful
ugly car that killed a 100 year
old carmaker. Yes, the hideous
Oldsmobile Aurora. The one that
GM staked the future of Olds on.

It seems that I am still ruffling
some feathers on my opinion of
the Big 3. Again, let me point out
that this is just a topic of discussion
…the real point is not to rely on
the government or your employer
to save your a$$ when the you-know-
what hits the fan.

Here is what Bill wrote me. My

I have seen some of your comments
concerning the US Automakers. Please
get some facts before you start putting
out FALSE comments on the American
Cars. I drive American Cars and have NEVER
had any problems. I find it pretty interesting
that you drive a FORD TRUCK. The companies
have some major problem with their business
model, but for you to state they sell junk IS
WAY OUT OF LINE !!!!!!!!!

Hey Bill–

Totally cool. But bear with me on this.
Their problems concerning the “business
model” comes from the fact that they
aren’t selling enough cars. Not enough
cash in the coffers to stay afloat. Right?

And they are not selling enough cars
because they are ugly and not as
reliable as, say, Japanese cars.

I said twice that I like the full size
American trucks and most SUVs

But the sedans are simply awful.
I’ve owned an Olds and a Taurus
and when you compare it to an
Accord or a Camry there is no
comparison. My dad was a die
hard American car guy until his
company car was an Accord and
he begrudgingly admitted it was a
nicer car…that it just “felt” better.

He was just sticking with GM because
he was being stubborn. Head to
head there is no comparison. And
we haven’t even brought up the
resale value thing.

People under the age of 40 have
looked at Japanese
imports as just another option of
cars to buy, not a threat to a way of
life, as was thought in the late 70s
when they began to take a hold.

Turns out the threat was a real one
and what I find disturbing is that NO
real adjustments were made.

And honestly, Houston is a car
town. More cars than people here. And
I see 20 year old Japanese cars tooling
around EVERY single day. I rarely see
a 20 year old GM or Ford car still
on the road. If you never have problems
with American cars, my guess is that’s
because you get a new one every 2 years.

Also, why does GM still even bother with
the whole Chevy/Pontiac/Buick
thing anymore? It wastes money and resources
and they are indistinguishable. I mean
they all had their own personalities in the
50s, maybe even 60s but that’s it. It’s
my opinion that it’s a pride thing. And that
hubris is just part of the downfall

They finally ditched Olds after the
hideous Aurora project–another ugly
piece of junk. How many of those
do you still see on the road. And what
could you get for one if tried to sell it?

Or the tragically named Achieva?

I’m just saying it is absolutely not a
surprise that the Big 3 are failing.
And what really annoys me and
80 percent of the population is that
WE have to bail them out. So much
for voting with our dollars. We still
have to foot the bill.

Ok…enough about cars, The real
point of all this is that if/when the
Big 3 tank unemployment is
gonna spike. And it may just affect
you directly.

And if we have to bail the clowns out then
our tax base is gonna be real ugly
for a really long time.

Start looking at new ways to generate
income. Think about going online
and generating some cash while you
sleep.

eBay is the perfect option and I am
THE guy to get you up and running
and making an extra $100 or $200
or $300 a week extra. In a short
amount of time.

Hey, what can I say? If you make
garbage then it will come back to
bite you. And guess what…you’re
not doing too good if you need a
bailout. Don’t get mad at me because
Detroit can’t design a car anyone under
50 would buy.

When Teresa bought a car she
didn’t even consider American for
one second. She looked at Toyota,
Nissan and Honda…and whose fault
is that?

Again, with the exception of big
trucks, the Big 3 make a bunch
of ugly junk. The only reason Buick is
still a division of GM is that Buicks
sell incredibly well in China.

It’s true. I find it kind of funny that
the only people Buick can sell a
car to nowadays is in China. And
I have no idea how you distinguish
an Oldsmobile from a Buick…probably
a good thing GM dumped Olds
What the difference between a
Pontiac and Chevy? A Ford and
a Mercury? A Chrysler and a Plymouth?
Why make 1 car with 2 different names?
They STILL do…after 30 plus years.
Why?

I mean my dad is 60 and he would
never ever buy an American sedan.
So my question is, who is buying
these things? Again, 80 year olds and
Enterprise rent a car. We’ll take it 3000
Taurses in white!

Anyway, I’m sure the Big 3 will be
bailed out. The latest I’m seeing now is
that they’ll just take some of the bailout
cas-h and slip it to the Big 3.

Yay. So even if they stay afloat and
don’t cause higher unemployment
we’ll still have to pay for it with our
taxes..or more accurately with your
grandkid’s taxes.

I don’t know about you but this
whole bailout thing is driving me
nuts. It’s not just me, right? First,
it’s a $700 Billion dollar bailout
for the investment banks.

No wait, make that $850B.
No wait…now they’re saying it
will be 2 Trillion. Great.

And with no transparency. In
other words we, the public who
are paying for this stupidity and
who oppose it 8-1 have no idea how
the money is being spent.

Wait. What? Are you joking?

And what have we gotten for
that exactly? Looks like the stock
market is still on a slide down.
Everyone is still talking doom and
gloom

Now the Big 3 want their slice.
Sure, they’ve made crap cars for
the last 35 years and watched as the
Japanese and Germans kicked their
butts and made virtually zero adjustments
to their cars or business models.

Wood paneled minivans? Really?
Did you know you can still buy those?
A Buick? They still make Buicks?
And Mercurys? Really? I wouldn’t
buy a Mercury ever…not even if the
“Mercury Girl” is hot.

You have to be 90 years old or a
rental car company to want a Buick
or Mercury

Oh…and the Pontiac Aztek? Way to go.
Nice car guys. Check the blog for a

And even though you didn’t give them
your money by buying their cars, they are
going to take a chunk of your money
anyway, by way of taxes and the gubment
deciding what to do with those taxes.

And if we do that, then what? The
Big 3 will have not learned a valuable
lesson. They won’t FINALLY restructure
and hire some designers without cataracts.

Nope. They will continue to build junk
(except for the full sized trucks, in my
opinion–but that’s apparently not enough
to keep them afloat).

Then in 5 or 10 years they’ll come looking
for another handout.

So where am I going with this? Simple.

It is up to you to make your own munny.
It will be up to you to earn a second or
third stream of income. Because who knows
how safe your job really is…or how much
more bailout taxes we’re gonna have to pay.

Whether you realize it or not, there is a
HUGE shift taking place. We all know that
no one works for a company for 40 years
anymore. We all know pensions and
Social Security are not to be relied on
anymore.

But what you may not realize, as we
are about to get an increase in unemployment
is that when those people who are getting
laid off now find new jobs, they probably
won’t be in the same field they were in
when they got canned.

A huge percentage will go online to start
making a new or secondary income.

A lot of people will realize that decent
health insurance is NOT a reason to
stay at a horrible job anymore. A lot of insurance
companies offer group rate to a large
group of self employed people who
pool their resources. Hmmmm.

A lot of stuff is changing and shifting
now whether you know it or not.

Is your job safe? How about that 401k?
How are your mutual funds looking?
I hope you’re in for the long haul.

And I hope you are looking at other
ways for you and your family to make
money.

Plus football was on. The Texans
won in a nail biter and the Cowboys
lost in a heartbreaking defeat. It
was a beautiful thing. Plus, Teresa’s
Dolphins are actually in playoff
contention….crazy.

So I was listing a few things on
eBay as I watched some pigskin
and ate a pizza, Turns out I got
a warning from eBay regarding my
feedback profile.

Here I am with 16,500+ feedback
and 99.4% positive. What the
hell was going on?

Well it turned out that my DSR’s
were not up to snuff in eBay’s eyes.
One of the 4 “Star Ratings” had fallen
to below 4.3 out of 5. Now keep in
mind that is still 86 percent, A strong
B no matter where you’re from.

Anyhoo, eBay has gotten more serious
about those star ratings. Apparently
they care less about my number,
my percentage and the fees I pay them.

Sigh.

I have a love/hate relationship with the
old eBay. I make a lot of money because
of them but some of the rules are a bit
annoying.

I had heard a few eBay insider’s predict that
the positive/negative thing would go away
or become less important and here is the
proof.

So I called my account rep this morning
and talked to her. I won’t go way into
it but I should be ok.

Plus here’s the cool thing. She sent me
a great letter to send winners of auctions
to get them to give you excellent feedback
and star ratings.

And since I always like to give my students
the latest info I will include it in future editions’
of “whole enchilada” package.

It will keep your feedback pretty and looking
good. And you won’t get it anywhere else.
Believe me. You don’t get a direct line to
an ebay account rep without having some
serious feedback and a huge track record.
I don’t think I was given that number until I
got to 7500.
